The associated app offers an interactive experience that uncovers the stories of individuals who lived in your street, your city during this tragic period. Through texts, photographs, audio clips, graphic stories, and augmented reality elements, Stolpersteine NRW breathes life into history.

Usage Note: This app utilizes Google Maps for navigation to the Stolpersteine and employs Google Firebase for augmented reality functionalities, resulting in data transfer to Google.

In North Rhine-Westphalia, approximately 17,000 Stolpersteine have been installed across more than 280 cities. Each stone memorializes a person who fell victim to National Socialism.

The Stolpersteine NRW app guides users to the last known residences of these victims, before they were forced into exile, took their own lives, or were deported.

Stolpersteine NRW provides insights into the personal histories of these individuals, presented in various formats such as:

• Biographical texts and audio stories
• Artistic illustrations through graphic stories
• Historical photographs, sound recordings, and videos
• Augmented reality content

Additionally, the app includes:

• A map with the locations of all Stolpersteine
• Suggestions for routes through cities in North Rhine-Westphalia
• Teaching materials developed in collaboration with "Planet Schule"
• Interactive filters for searching and researching within all 17,000 datasets
